If Moms Were Written Like Fantasy Heroines
Fantasy heroines are brave, beautiful, and somehow capable of saving entire kingdoms while surviving on three hours of sleep.
Which got me thinking…
As a mother of four, I also survive on three hours of sleep.
Yet somehow nobody is writing epic tales about me.
A tragic oversight, honestly.
She Rose Before Dawn
Fantasy Heroine:
She awoke before sunrise, preparing for the dangerous journey ahead.
Mom Version:
The baby kicked me in the ribs at 4:17am and then demanded breakfast.
She Carried Ancient Power Within Her
Fantasy Heroine:
A legendary force flowed through her veins.
Mom Version:
Caffeine.
The ancient force was caffeine.
She Was Feared By Her Enemies
Fantasy Heroine:
Entire armies trembled at the sound of her name.
Mom Version:
My children scatter when I start counting to three.
Her Body Bore The Marks Of Battle
Fantasy Heroine:
Scars from countless wars told her story.
Mom Version:
Stretch marks, a mysterious bruise, and at least one injury caused by stepping on a Lego.
She Possessed A Magical Familiar
Fantasy Heroine:
A loyal dragon accompanied her on every quest.
Mom Version:
A toddler who follows me into the bathroom.
She Was Bound By An Ancient Prophecy
Fantasy Heroine:
Destiny had chosen her.
Mom Version:
The school newsletter had chosen me to bring snacks for 27 children on Friday.
She Could Survive On Almost No Sleep
Fantasy Heroine:
Years of training prepared her for hardship.
Mom Version:
The newborn stage.
Enough said.
She Protected Those She Loved
Fantasy Heroine:
She would burn kingdoms to keep her family safe.
Mom Version:
I once drove across town at 9pm because my child decided only one specific brand of yogurt was acceptable.
Close enough.
Final Thoughts
Maybe fantasy heroines aren’t actually that different from moms.
Both survive impossible odds.
Both carry responsibilities nobody else fully understands.
Both perform feats that look suspiciously like magic from the outside.
The only real difference is that nobody hands moms a sword.
Probably for the best.
What About You?
If moms were written as fantasy heroines, what would your special power be?
Would you possess the legendary ability to find missing shoes five minutes before the school bus arrives? Command an army of tiny humans through sheer force of will? Survive indefinitely on cold coffee and snacks stolen from your children’s plates?
Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear your best fantasy-mom title, magical ability, or heroic quest.
